There is a definite battle for pole position right now between Hawaii’s young superstar, Kai Lenny, and France’s Peyo Lizarazu. Kai’s first place in Sunset and 3rd in France will put him in good stead. But his 17th in Tahiti is definitely a throw out, providing he can put together a good result in Brazil. One thing Kai has shown throughout this year, is knowledge and experience way beyond his years, as well as a very complete skill set. He can never be counted out and is a strong prospect for the Championship crown.

On 27th of June 2010 another wonderful page of stand up paddle history was written. Approximately 100 people from all around the world gathered in Venice to attend the event organized by RRD and Nissan, under the sponsorship of the municipality of Venice, to promote the Surf Culture in the Venetian lagoon.
The parade, which took the riders on their SUP (stand up paddle boards) escorted by the historical "sandals" of the Rowing Settemari along more than 6 km from the Tronchetto through the Grand Canal till the Arsenale (historical Venice shipyard), has created a new link between the culture of surfing and the city of Venice. During the parade of the hundreds, thousands of people have realized that there is another way to travel by water, namely, on a board using a paddle.
While tourists snapped photos from the banks and bridges of Venice, from the gondolas and from the ferries, the Venetians looked out their windows, curious to witness the spectacle of those surfers who paddle easily along the Grand Canal, with gondolas and other boats engaged in their daily traffic.
"We are witnessing a historical moment," Roberto Ricci said from the stage in Campo San Biagio after the long parade; "Today the Surf Culture and the Venetian Marine Tradition officially came into contact."
The chief representative of the global Stand Up Paddle Laird Hamilton was visiting the south of France, with its large Plate, Large Dog Car but small, this one taking advantage Swell and see friends you can see some photos of the visit and a Video on Link:

Interview with one of the best Paddle surfer in the world Ikaika Kalama courtesy Stand Up Paddle Magazine:

Twenty-nine and Ikaika Kalama has done it all; shortboard, longboard, tow, so it seemed only natural that SUP was the next evolutionary step for him. Ikaika, born and raised in the water though officially his hometown is Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawaii, sat down with us and shared with us about “paddlin’ in style”.
Ikaika began his involvement in SUP through Uncle Buff, who has had a stand up division in his contests for the past six to seven years even before SUP gained popularity. “I enjoy SUP, it’s a really good sport to keep your skills on point. There is so much skill involved in stand up...its not as easy as it looks, its very challenging. I like to be challenged plus I just have so much fun doing it. I figured I’ve done everything else why not SUP.”
A day in the life of a Pipeline SUP’er is slightly different then the latter mentioned. Ikaika describes his typical day, “When you wake up you call the Volcom house, that’s where all the boys hang to see what the waves are doing. He knows what boards are going in the truck and gets down there to have a little safety meeting with the boys. “I’m probably the only one that stands up at Pipe on a regular basis. I show a lot of respect to the boys out there and that’s why I get a lot of respect in return.” He claims confidently. They are all family out on the water. “If you’re one of the Pipe boys you ask the same thing to all of them. It’s our life. We don’t move from the house until it’s dark. We can just sit there all day long, surf, watch all day, barbecue and drink beers. I’m no different than everyone with the exception that I see the sets before everyone and I got a paddle for all the guys on the shoulder in my way.” He laughs. “The most important piece of advice I can offer though to all the SUP guys is be humble. If you want some respect then show some. Don’t blow it for everyone!”
